MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – All of Belarus’ steps in response to the closures of border checkpoints by neighboring countries were well-considered and balanced, Nikolai Buzin, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, said on the air of the STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“With the help of science, almost everything can be calculated if there is the necessary base, the proper algorithms are followed, and the task is clearly set for specialists in the field. In my view, the Republic of Belarus anticipated these issues in advance. Our president has repeatedly said that this will come to an end. Our neighbors will eventually come to their senses, they will have to talk and return to normal dialogue. I think this is a pragmatic approach, based on a deep analysis of current events and an understanding of the future,” Nikolai Buzin said.
According to him, the events could have taken place under various scenarios, at least five options were visible. “Thanks to the purposeful, pragmatic, and consistent policy of the Republic of Belarus, and specifically of the president, we once again managed to walk this fine line, on thin ice, defending our national interests and finding the right solution in a very difficult situation,” the expert added.

He does not rule out the possibility of changes in the policies of neighboring states, since for Europe events near Belarus’ borders are a bargaining chip that can be used to raise political status and increase financial flows at the expense of Belarus and Russia. “We cannot rule out future attempts to play the ‘border’ card again. However, reasonable people who have tried and realized that it is not worth it, should understand that one must live in friendship with Belarus. We look ahead and plan our steps,” Nikolai Buzin emphasized.
