MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – The Armed Forces of Belarus are primarily an instrument to prevent wars, Belarus' Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin told reporters following the meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to discuss military security issues on 26 May, BelTA has learned.
“We don't threaten anyone. We want to live on our own land, to develop our country, be independent, and self-sufficient. Our Armed Forces are not an instrument of warfare. It is an instrument to prevent wars, first of all,” Viktor Khrenin stressed.
The defense minister noted that Belarus is monitoring the transformation of the armed forces in the NATO countries. After all, new technologies and weapons emerge there. “Based on this, we think over and make projections about possible risks, challenges and threats for us, and work out adequate countermeasures,” he added.
