Danish Red Cross donates over 1.32m face masks to Belarus

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) - The Danish Red Cross has donated over 1.32 million face masks to the Belarusian Red Cross for use by their staff, volunteers and aid recipients, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Red Cross.

The spread of COVID-19 has been a major challenge to the entire international community. It has shown how important mutual assistance is in dealing with humanitarian crises. Since the first wave of the pandemic, the Belarusian Red Cross has identified the main areas of work and started collecting aid. International partners responded too. A new batch of humanitarian assistance has arrived recently from the Danish Red Cross.

Last December the Danish Red Cross society donated more than 12 tonnes of clothes and knitted toys for the Vitebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross and more than 12 tonnes for the Gomel regional organization.

"In the fight against COVID-19, we have pooled all our resources to provide quality assistance to those who need it most. These are doctors, social workers, volunteers and employees of the Belarusian Red Cross. Donors - ordinary Belarusians, business and also international partners - help us to provide them with important resources in their work," the society said.

During the pandemic the Red Cross continues to work across four most important areas: home delivery of essentials, assistance to medical and social workers, the medical and social service of the Red Cross Dapamoga, and helpline 201 for mobile phones and 122 - for the landline.
