MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Europe is preparing to give Ukraine’s air force a massive “steroid boost”, Bulgarian political analyst Plamen Paskov said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Europe will ‘inject steroids’ into Ukraine’s air force. This also applies to the ground forces. Britain has provided them with drones,” Plamen Paskov said.
The political scientist noted that negotiations have recently been underway to supply Kiev with French Rafale and Swedish Gripen fighter jets. He believes these aircraft will gradually begin to appear in Ukraine’s skies. However, combat involving these fighter jets will bear little resemblance to the classic aerial duels of World War II.
“This cannot be viewed through the lens of World War II. Modern air combat is a contest of electronic warfare; it is a question of who detects whom first. Spot a target 200–300 kilometers away, fire a missile, and the engagement is over. This is a question of entirely different technologies, like nanotechnology, robotics, and the automation of processes, if you will,” Plamen Paskov emphasized. “It will be a long-range firefight, provided the Ukrainian army is properly equipped.”
Speaking about the British drones for Ukraine, the political scientist noted that London plans to mass-produce interceptor drones with the goal of supplying “thousands” of such UAVs to Ukraine, as stated on the UK government’s website.
