Belarusian sanatoriums half-booked for May

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – The demand for Belarusian sanatoriums is bouncing back, with more than 50% rooms booked for May, Director of the National Center for Recuperation and Health Resort Treatment Gennady Bolbatovsky told the media on 9 March, BelTA has learned.

“Today the situation is under control. During the first quarter, in January - February, the occupancy rate of health centers was 60%. There is an increase in sales for subsequent periods. More than 50% of rooms in sanatoriums have already been booked for May. This trend is encouraging,” Gennady Bolbatovsky said.

The demand for Belarusian sanatoriums is expected to fully recover this year.

It is hard to make any forecasts in the conditions of uncertainty. However, there are reasons to hope that the situation will get back to normal and the sector will recover from the effects of the pandemic . Thus, in the first quarter of this year Belarusian health resorts are expected to welcome at least 10,000 Russian citizens, and in the second quarter - more than 20,000 Russian guests.

People are offered vouchers to the nearest sanatoriums in order to minimize travel. In total, about one million people are expected to visit Belarusian health centers this year. Some 700,000 vouchers will be subsidized by the government. Br210 million has been allocated for this purpose from the central budget and the off-budget social security fund.
