Belarusian Defense Ministry summons Polish military attache

MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – Defense Attache of the Embassy of Poland in Belarus, Colonel Jaroslaw Kembrowski was summoned to the Belarusian Defense Ministry on 9 November, the ministry's press service told BelTA.

The defense attache was told that Poland's accusations alleging Belarusian military personnel are complicit in the migration crisis at the Belarusian-Polish border are unfounded and unjustified.

The ministry also noted that such serious accusations should be backed by appropriate proof. In the absence of such proof the accusations will be seen as a provocation against Belarus' Armed Forces.

The Belarusian Defense Ministry expressed concern over an increase in the number of Polish military personnel near the Belarusian border and over the absence of objective arguments in favor of their deployment.

The defense attache was told once again that in line with the regional trust- and security-building measures Belarusian observers are supposed to be invited to observe military activities that involve 6,000 military personnel and more than that.

According to official reports from Poland, over 12,000 military personnel were deployed at the Belarusian-Polish border in the evening on 8 November.

“Minsk has yet to receive notifications or invitations for observation from the Polish side. Moreover, we've seen no intention to discuss the existing concerns,” the Belarusian Defense Ministry said.

The Belarusian Defense Ministry is forced to conclude that Poland's Defense Ministry is unprepared for a constructive dialogue about the issues that have arisen or desires no such dialogue. Nevertheless, the Belarusian Defense Ministry still looks forward to initiative proposals from the Polish side.
