Belarus, Uzbekistan to advance cooperation in light industry

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan will strengthen cooperation in the textile and garment sectors, the press secretary of the Belarusian state light industry concern Daria Volynets told BelTA.

Bellegprom's chairwoman Tatiana Lugina and Uztekstilprom Association leadership discussed the possible areas of cooperation where the textile sectors of the two countries can effectively interact. “This will be institutional, investment and industrial cooperation. The countries will also cooperate in the field of education and advanced training,” the press service noted.

The parties plan mutual visits, participation in exhibitions, sharing of best practices. They will also implement the sector development strategies and cooperation roadmaps as part of institutional cooperation.

The industrial cooperation will include mutual supplies of cotton yarn, fabrics, and textiles for Belarusian enterprises, and chemical fibers, linen raw materials, and blended finished fabrics for Uzbek enterprises. Projects for sewing of finished goods in Uzbekistan on orders of Belarusian brands will be explored.

Education and advanced training will be key aspects of cooperation. Uzbek specialists, including seamstresses, technologists, and designers, will go on internships to Belarusian enterprises, while Belarusian technologists will be recruited for managerial work at Uzbek enterprises.
