MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Belarus took part in an event titled China Travel Media Market held in Beijing, the Belarusian foreign mission in the People’s Republic of China told BelTA.

Representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in China attended the meeting.

The event was organized by China Travel Media. Belarusian diplomats presented the country’s potential across various types of tourism. The most actively developing segments in Belarus include historical and cultural tourism, agro-ecotourism, ecological tourism, hunting, religious tourism, wellness and medical tourism, event tourism, business tourism, industrial tourism, gastronomic tourism, and educational tourism.

Belarus operates the National Tourism Agency, whose main goals include creating conditions for the sustainable development of tourism in the country, increasing the sector’s contribution to economic growth, ensuring state regulation and a unified national tourism policy, shaping Belarus’ image as an attractive destination for tourists and excursionists, improving the quality of tourism and excursion services as well as agro-ecotourism offerings, promoting Belarus’ tourism potential and specific tourism products on domestic and international markets, and participating in public-private partnership projects.

Chinese media outlets and bloggers expressed interest in Belarusian tourism during the event.

During the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to China in March 2023, the two heads of state signed an agreement on cooperation in tourism. Both sides also introduced several measures to facilitate tourism cooperation. In particular, visa policies were optimized: since 2018, China and Belarus have implemented a 30-day visa-free regime, significantly simplifying entry and exit procedures for tourists and improving travel convenience. Air connectivity has also improved, with the number of flights increasing from two to four per week. Air China launched a direct Minsk-Beijing flight in 2015 and added a Minsk-Xi’an-Beijing route on 28 December last year. Belarusian airline Belavia opened a Urumqi-Minsk route on 16 December last year.

As Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan previously told BelTA, tourism helps strengthen mutual understanding and traditional friendship between Belarus and China. “When Chinese tourists travel in Belarus or Belarusians visit China, they can not only enjoy exotic natural landscapes and discover unique cultural features, but also deepen mutual understanding and traditional friendship between the two peoples,” the diplomat said.

A related event, Hainan Workshop 2026, held in Minsk on 10 March 2026, aimed to introduce Belarusians to the leisure and wellness opportunities on the well-known Chinese island. Hainan is expecting Belarusian tourists for recreation and health treatment, said Anastasia Korytova, a representative of the Sanya Tourism Bureau of Hainan Province, at the start of the event. She led a large delegation from Hainan to Minsk to present the tourism potential of the province and the city of Sanya, one of China’s major resort destinations. According to her, last year saw a real breakthrough in tourism thanks to the launch of Belavia’s direct flights between Minsk and Sanya in October 2025, opening up a new chapter in Belarus-China tourism cooperation. The visa-free regime between Belarus and China remains a major advantage.
