MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) - Preliminary data indicates that the nationwide clean-up day (subbotnik) has raised nearly Br19.4 million, which is almost Br3 million more than the previous subbotnik held on 12 April. These figures were provided by Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Natalya Petkevich after she took part in the construction of the surgical wing of the Minsk Regional Clinical Hospital of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in the agro-town of Lesnoi in Minsk District on 25 October, BelTA has learned.
Natalya Petkevich noted that 2.3 million people joined the clean-up day on 25 October. “In this Year of Improvement, we have held two nationwide subbotniks in a single year for the first time. It is very pleasing that, despite the rainy weather in Minsk and possibly other cities, a large number of people participated in the event,” she said.

According to the deputy prime minister, regions hold such clean-up days three to four times a year. “For example, in Gomel Oblast, several very significant sites dedicated to the Great Patriotic War have been built using funds from the subbotniks held several times throughout the year. It is important to understand where the money goes and what it is spent on. You want your contribution of labor to serve a real benefit for the country,” Natalya Petkevich emphasized.

A national clean-up day took place across Belarus on 25 October. Belarusians were engaged in landscaping, improving, and restoring order in public areas and facilities in their towns and cities. The work was focused on significant sites, historical and cultural landmarks, memorial complexes, sites of military glory, and the graves of soldiers and partisans from the Great Patriotic War.

Of the funds raised from this autumn's subbotnik, 50% will be allocated to the construction of the National History Museum of Belarus and the creation of its permanent exhibition. The remaining 50% will be at the disposal of the regional executive committees and the Minsk City Executive Committee, with the possibility of directing them to specific local projects.
