Belarus' parliamentary delegation led by Kochanova on visit to Azerbaijan

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus led by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova has arrived in the Republic of Azerbaijan on an official visit, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of parliament.

The program of the visit includes a meeting between Natalya Kochanova and Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, a session of the Executive Council of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), the 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, and a number of bilateral meetings.

The Belarusian parliamentary delegation includes Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Ipatov.

The topic of the plenary session is “Role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening
multilateral cooperation in Asia”. The participants of the meetings will consider  granting the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus observer status in the APA.

The APA was established in 2006 to coordinate the efforts of national parliaments to address pressing problems, including by increasing the parliamentary role in ensuring peace in Asia. The Assembly acts as one of the instruments of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the region, its activities are aimed at developing a collective strategy for ensuring security and stability in Asia. The APA includes 43 member parliaments and 32 observers.
