MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in advancing cooperation with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, BelTA learned from the press service of Belarus’ State Committee on Science and Technology.

Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology Denis Korzhitsky paid a working visit to the Russian science town of Dubna, where he took part in a key session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States. The event took place ahead of the 70th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. During the session, participants reviewed the organization’s performance in 2025 and discussed strategic plans through 2040. Consideration was also given to the concept of the International Science and Technology Park in Dubna, which will include a research university and a scientific and clinical center for proton therapy. A key outcome of the session was the decision to establish a working group to prepare proposals for updating the charter of the international intergovernmental organization.

JINR Director, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov emphasized the unifying role of science: “JINR’s research program brings together dozens of countries, despite any difficulties, because for all of us science comes first.” He noted that to remain competitive, the institute must strengthen its fundamental base and expand international cooperation by creating new projects and formats for collaboration with partners.

The session also featured presentations on key scientific achievements from JINR’s laboratories. These included active preparations for experiments to synthesize elements 119 and 120 of the periodic table, the development of the Baikal-GVD deep-water neutrino telescope and the MSC-230 medical superconducting cyclotron, as well as significant results in the theory of the atomic nucleus and fundamental interactions.

Plenipotentiary Representative of the Council of Ministers of Belarus to JINR Denis Korzhitsky stated during the meeting that Belarus is interested in the broadest possible range of work, from fundamental research to applied innovation. He noted that the success of this work is built on JINR’s unique scientific infrastructure and daily engagement with its multinational community of scientists.

Following the session, Denis Korzhitsky toured the institute’s research facilities, met with Belarusian specialists working at JINR, and visited the NICA collider complex.

The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is an international intergovernmental organization established to unite the scientific potential of its member states for the study of fundamental properties of matter.
