MINSK, 24 December (BelTA) – Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin congratulated the children of the Orsha District Social and Pedagogical Center on the upcoming holidays as part of the Our Children campaign, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry’s press service.
Generals and officers joined the children in a New Year’s fairy tale. Children, teachers, and military personnel danced in circles, sang songs, and shared many genuine smiles. Actors from the Belarusian Army Drama Theater helped create the festive atmosphere.
The children prepared a surprise for the minister: a set of Christmas ornaments decorated with photos from all the holidays they had celebrated together. Viktor Khrenin promised to put the ornaments up on the main Christmas tree in the Defense Ministry building.
The minister noted that the Armed Forces have been visiting Orsha District since the very beginning of the Our Children campaign in 1995. “At first it was the Andreyevsky orphanage, and after its closure – the Orsha District Social and Pedagogical Center. The tradition of visiting such institutions before the holidays has never been interrupted. Even during the COVID pandemic, when visits were limited, we still recorded video messages and delivered gifts. What matters most is giving attention to children in such institutions,” Viktor Khrenin emphasized.
He added that the military provides assistance to the Orsha center throughout the year. “For me, it is above all an opportunity to come and talk with the center’s leadership, assess what we have accomplished over the year, and determine future plans. During our cooperation, we have helped repair the roof, insulate and paint the facade, and renovate the medical unit where the children are housed. Of course, this is not the limit. We will continue to provide support. The center’s leadership knows they can always turn to us for help during the year,” the minister said.
He also pointed out another important aspect of such cooperation. “It is certainly the holiday itself. The most pleasant part is the anticipation of the holiday. The children prepare, but we prepare too. We always arrive in a good mood and rejoice together with the children. These are children who, by fate, and sometimes through the fault of their parents, have found themselves in difficult life situations. Our task is to give them attention so they do not lose faith in kindness or in themselves. So they know that in our country there are people who will always give a hand. Most importantly, so they grow up to be worthy citizens of our country,” the head of the Defense Ministry concluded.
