Belarus commissions 1.2m m2 of all-electric homes in 2021-2023

KHOINIKI DISTRICT, 15 February (BelTA) – Belarus commissioned 1.2 million square meters of all-electric houses in 2021-2023, Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told reporters at the presentation of a pilot project for additional electrification of the agricultural town of Veliky Bor, Khoiniki District, BelTA has learned.

According to Viktor Karankevich, the measures adopted by the head of state and government allowed increasing electricity consumption in the country by 41.1 billion kWh.

The minister pointed to a significant rise in electricity consumption both by the real sector of the economy and by households.

According to him, work is underway to increase the use of electrical energy for heating and water heating. The electricity consumption for these purposes grew 1.4 times in 2023. “The total consumption is almost 650 million kWh,” Viktor Karankevich said citing the figures.

He outlined three areas of work to increase electricity consumption by households. The first one is the construction of new all-electric housing. “About 2 million square meters of such homes are to be commissioned in 2021-2025, with 1.2 million square meters delivered in 2021-2023,” the minister emphasized.

The second area of work is converting residential buildings that use solid fuel to using all-electric power sources. “Residential electrification plans have been drawn up. A total of 100 such houses across the country are on the list. And 36 are ready to switch to electricity for heating. The work on external power supply has been completed,” said Viktor Karankevich.

The third area of work is the conversion of single-family homes to electrical energy sources. According to Viktor Karankevich, from 2019 to 2023, about 103,000 requests from households were received for the issuance of permits to use electrical energy for heating purposes. During this period, 89% of such requests received the greenlight. “Every year more such permits are issued due to consistent work to upgrade the power grid and substations of various voltage classes. Last year, 25,000 applications were received and 95% of them got clearance. And this work continues,” the minister added.
