MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) - A delegation from Belarusian State University (BSU) discussed strategic cooperation in education and youth policy during a visit to China. BSU Rector Andrei Korol led the delegation, BelTA learned from the press service of BSU.
“The visit program included activities aimed at strengthening partnership, promoting BSU’s educational and scientific potential, and sharing Belarusian cultural and spiritual values with Chinese young people. A productive meeting was held with Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Committee of Yanshan University Zhao Xianfeng. The parties discussed joint training programs for Chinese students and agreed on a cooperation plan under the memorandum of understanding signed in May. Agreements were also reached to establish a Russian language training program at Yanshan University in cooperation with BSU’s Institute of Innovative Education in Sanya to prepare Chinese applicants for admission to BSU,” the press service noted.
A significant event was the participation of the BSU delegation in the Belarusian-Chinese festival Made in Belarus jointly organized with Peking University. Chinese youth were introduced to some of the finest dance and music performances from Belarusian cultural and folk heritage. “Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has repeatedly emphasized the importance of fostering intercultural and youth dialogue between nations as strategic partners. Without an understanding of traditions, cultural roots, and direct communication between young people from Belarus and China, establishing economic, political, and international connections would be much more challenging. That is why Belarusian culture was showcased at Peking University: to allow its students to see the soul of Belarus and become familiar with the country's invaluable heritage,” the press service emphasized.
BSU representatives also met with the leadership of Shandong University. Following the meeting, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding, agreed on future cooperation, outlined the priority areas of interaction and developed a work plan.
China has become a major strategic partner for BSU. The increasing number of agreements with this country over the last ten years has proved this. About 20% of all BSU international agreements are concluded with China. Over 600 agreements with organizations from 57 countries are currently active. In recent years, agreements have been signed with Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Cooperation is developing in various educational and scientific areas, including education of Chinese citizens at BSU, joint training of students with Peking University, joint institutes opened with Dalian Polytechnic University. Joint scientific research and conferences are organized, and collective articles are published.
