MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – Belarus ranks 28th in the Gender Inequality Index out of 172 countries, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Yulia Berdnikova told BelTA.
“Belarus pays special attention to gender equality across all areas of life. As a result, Belarus stands out in three significant international rankings, securing top positions. Belarus ranks 65th out of 193 in the group of nations with a high human development index. Our country currently stands at 28th out of 172 in the Gender Inequality Index, which assesses nations on reproductive health, civil rights and opportunities, economic activity and labor market opportunities. Meanwhile, in the Gender Gap Index, our country ranks 54th among 148 nations,” Yulia Berdnikova stated.
According to the expert, such positions in the rankings are due to the high level of education among women, their participation in decision-making and their position in the labor market, as women make up more than 50% of the population employed in the country’s economy. According to 2025 data, the employment rate for women of working age exceeded 85%.
“8 March is not only a holiday of spring and showing care, it is also a celebration of women’s equality, opportunities and self-fulfillment,” she noted.
