New development goals set for Vitebsk District

MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – I would like to see Vitebsk District among the most advanced districts in the country, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he made new appointments on 4 January, BelTA has learned.

Giving his consent to appoint Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Sergei Yegorov to the post of Chairman of the Vitebsk District Executive Committee, Aleksandr Lukashenko asked why this candidacy was proposed. "Are you dissatisfied with his work in this position?" the president asked addressing Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko.

Igor Sergeyenko explained, this is another step on the career ladder for Sergei Yegorov. His previous experience will come in handy in the new post.

"I have gained some experience during my four years in the Committee on Agriculture and Food. Prior to that, I worked as the chairman of the Tolochin District Executive Committee. Probably, this work is closer to me in spirit," Sergei Yegorov said in turn.

"So it's more dynamic work, in your opinion. Vitebsk District is a great contributor to the agricultural output, isn’t?" Aleksandr Lukashenko asked.

"It goes second after Orsha District. Both in terms of planted areas and production indicators," Sergei Yegorov said.

"But this does not mean that it should be second," the head of state said.

"I set myself the task of bringing the district to the level of advanced districts in other regions such as Grodno Oblast and Brest Oblast," Sergei Yegorov said.

"That's the spirit. Orsha, Tolochin, Vitebsk, and others neighboring districts drive the entire region forward. The northern districts of Vitebsk Oblast (Verkhnedvinsk, Braslav) are not locomotives in agriculture. Although they need to work harder on this front too," the president emphasized. “It's good that you set yourself the task of bringing the district to the rank of most advanced. For this, everything is in place in Vitebsk District. Everything is in place to bring it to the level of the country’s most advanced districts. Your reference point is Orsha District. You must surpass it."

Molodechno District Executive Committee will also have a new chairman. First Deputy Chairman Pavel Gubko has been appointed to this position. “The position remained vacant for three months. We decided not to rush with the appointment and see how the first deputy was coping with the work,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

"We saw that the person can organize work. He is up to the task," the head of the President Administration is convinced.

"You have no other choice but to cope. Since you accept this position, you must produce the results," Aleksandr Lukashenko said addressing Pavel Gubko.
