MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – The future well-being of the Belarusian people rests on each citizen and on unity in society, Belarusian President and Chairman of the Belarusian People’s Congress Aleksandr Lukashenko said, summarizing the results of the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on 19 December, BelTA has learned.
“You, the delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress, are the ones to carry out today’s decisions. We have everything for this: experience, knowledge, indisputable authority, and, most importantly, the trust of citizens. It is important not only to explain the adopted documents but also to unite and mobilize people to implement the planned tasks. To convince them of the main thing: how we will live tomorrow depends on each of us and on our unity. If we are united and cohesive, we will be strong, and if we are strong, the country will be peaceful and prosperous,” the president said.
“For us, Belarus is both the present and the future,” the head of state emphasized.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that 2026 marks an anniversary for the Belarusian People’s Congress, which first convened in 1996. “It will be thirty years since it first became the true voice of the Belarusian people amid a social and political crisis stirred up by nationalist rhetoric. Back then, it halted the chaos and civil confrontation, and guaranteed the right of the Belarusian people to decide their own destiny. And the right to be a constitutional body,” he said. “We have been refining and perfecting the mechanisms of our people’s congress with each five-year period. The new constitutional status has only strengthened the role of the Belarusian People’s Congress as a stabilizing and guiding force in the social and political development of Belarus.”
The president noted that while the powers of the Belarusian People’s Congress have expanded, so too has its accountability for the decisions it takes and their execution. “Therefore, it is important to carefully consider every idea, assess the risks, forecast the consequences, weigh every word, and develop mechanisms for making our plans a reality,” the Belarusian leader said.
