MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) – Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov made a few comments on the air of the Belarusian TV channel First News about the phone conversation that took place between Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of the United States of America Donald Trump on 15 August, BelTA has learned.
When asked who initiated the conversation between Aleksandr Lukashenko and Donald Trump, Valentin Rybakov said: “U.S. President Donald Trump called President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko.”
During the conversation between the presidents of Belarus and the USA Valentin Rybakov acted as an interpreter. This is why he is aware of the topics the Belarusian leader discussed with his American counterpart. In his words, the bilateral agenda was discussed as well as prospects of advancing the mutual relations of the two countries. Regional problems were also mentioned, including the conflict in Ukraine. The leaders also talked about events in the Middle East.
“The [Belarus] president thanked the U.S. president for efforts to normalize the situation, to find peaceful solutions in Caucasus. A number of other matters were also discussed,” Valentin Rybakov noted. “The situation in hot spots was discussed. Attempts were made to discuss what can be done in order to help normalize the situation in hot spots.”
According to the permanent representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations, Aleksandr Lukashenko’s conversation with Donald Trump had been very benevolent, honest, and open. “You know I get the feeling that it was definitely not the first time these two persons had talked to each other. I felt as if they knew and understood each other well. I could simply feel it in the mood, in how the conversation proceeded,” Valentin Rybakov added.
The leaders of Belarus and the USA had a phone call on 15 August. The presidents discussed matters on the bilateral agenda, regional affairs, and the situation in hot spots, including Ukraine.
An agreement was reached to continue contacts. Aleksandr Lukashenko invited Donald Trump and his family to visit Minsk. The invitation was accepted.
