Opinion: The Belarusian nation will have enough wisdom for a decent election campaign

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian nation will have sufficient wisdom for a decent and proper election campaign, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairwoman of the Human Rights, National Relations, and Mass Media Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Lilia Ananich.

The MP noted: “The campaign to elect the head of state has drawn attention to a topic that is not new. Not everyone likes Belarus, a sovereign and independent country where social justice, progress without maidans and shocks were and I am sure will be the most important components of creative work in the future. It is the policy that underpins the country's accomplishments, its authority and respect in the world. It is at least irresponsible to fail to notice the obvious accomplishments of Belarus, all the more so, to blacken the road the country has travelled.”

The MP stressed that unfortunately as early as the stage of signature collection one sees attempts to destabilize the situation in the country by any means, including speculations about economic and epidemic hardships, massive campaigns in social media and in foreign conventional mass media. “Some aspirants openly state that getting elected, discussing ways of development of the country are not their goals but bringing down the current government is. And it's happening in this most complicated period of time when literally the entire world is struggling with challenges and threats caused by the coronavirus pandemic. What results do these challengers intend to achieve? What bright future do they promise to Belarusians?” the MP wondered. “I am convinced our people, who live by their mind and work, will be smart enough to decently proceed with the election campaign, to prevent the country from being destroyed and the society from being split.”
