EEC shares key takeaways of Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting

MOSCOW, 5 February (BelTA) – The heads of government of the Eurasian Economic Union member states discussed ten issues at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 5 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

“In particular, the participants of the meeting discussed ways to streamline the application of special protective, anti-dumping and countervailing measures in the Eurasian Economic Union,” the press service informed. “The EEC delivered a report on the mechanism of applying retaliatory measures on the customs territory of the union. The premiers also considered a ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal from Kazakhstan and Belarus to other members of the union,” the press service added.

The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council approved a concept of promoting electronic document management at sea checkpoints of the EAEU states, discussed a report on the macroeconomic situation in the Eurasian Economic Union states and proposals to maintain sustainable economic growth.

“The procedure for coordination and analytical support of livestock selection and breeding in the EAEU states was approved. The heads of government of the EAEU member states upheld the candidacy of Ruslan Beketayev as a new Member of the Board (Minister) for Economy and Financial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission to replace Timur Zhaksylykov. The candidacy of Ruslan Beketayev who holds the post of Vice Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan, will be presented to the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council,” the press service noted.

Taking part in the meeting were Belarus' Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, Chairman of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan; Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ulukbek Maripov,

Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin; Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich; Acting Prime Minister of Moldova Aureliu Ciocoi, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Prime Minister of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank Nikolai Podguzov. Moldova, Uzbekistan and Cuba have an observer status at the Eurasian Economic Union.

“The next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will be held in the Russian Federation on 23 April 2021,” the EEC press service added.
