CSTO warns of risks of Middle East conflict escalating

MOSCOW, 1 March (BelTA) – The Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretariat warned of the risk of an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, according to a commentary received by BelTA in connection with the US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

“The CSTO Secretariat views with great concern the reports of massive US and Israeli strikes having commenced on Iranian territory, which have resulted in civilian casualties. We perceive considerable risks associated with the further escalation of this conflict,” the organization stated.

“We share the assessment of the situation expressed by the UN Secretary-General. We believe that the parties need to return to political dialogue as soon as possible and to resolve the conflict in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter,” the CSTO Secretariat emphasized.
