China calls for building open global economy

BISHKEK, 14 June (BelTA) – China calls for building an open global economy, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at the extended-participation meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council in Bishkek on 14 June, BelTA has learned.

“The SCO is meant to become an example of mutually beneficial cooperation. We call for defending a multilateral trade system and building an open global economy. We believe that it is important to strengthen the institutional foundation of liberalization, to facilitate trade and investment, make the regional economy more open, tolerant and integrated,” the Chinese leader said.

He also mentioned the advantages of cooperation within the framework of China's Belt and Road initiative and active collaboration with other regional associations, including the Eurasian Economic Union.

“We need to cultivate new points of growth in digital economy, electronic trade, artificial intelligence and big data,” Xi Jinping said.

According to him, the SCO is meant to set an example of tolerance and mutually beneficial cooperation. “We need to cherish the cultural diversity in our region as a valuable asset, to avoid the rhetoric of civilizational clashes, and to stick to the principles of openness and tolerance,” Xi Jinping said.

He also gave his take on ways to maintain regional security and expand cooperation in culture, humanitarian field, sport, tourism and mass media.
