MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – The United States views Vladimir Zelensky as a toxic and failed leader, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov told BelTA.
“The verbal match between Trump, Vance and Zelensky broadcast live from the White House goes beyond diplomatic protocol and the established modus operandi of interstate relations. This rarely happens, and you certainly won't see it live. The whole world saw it. Vladimir Zelensky, who has become proficient in English, but not in debate with the Americans, decided to push back against the US leadership while visiting Donald Trump. What a level of self-confidence! It is noteworthy that the American leadership has not seen such a pushback for a long time. And who did that? The representative of Ukraine, a country that is fighting against Russia with massive military support from the USA. On the other hand, I believe that Vladimir Zelensky, as an inexperienced politician, fell for a staged provocation that sought to discredit him, primarily in front of the American people, in order to justify a change in US strategy towards Ukraine,” Sergei Rachkov said.
The MP is sure that Vladimir Zelensky's self-confidence and political incompetence are to blame. “They didn't want to see him in Washington, but he came and showed disrespect for Donald Trump. The United States already considers Vladimir Zelensky a toxic and failed leader. His 'war for the sake of peace' approach is not aligned with the interests of the United States and especially the Ukrainian people,” he said.
“The demonstrative dressing down of Vladimir Zelensky staged in Washington shows that the United States is effectively writing him off. I know from my own experience that the United States respects those who firmly but respectfully defend national interests. This background strengthens the positions of the Republic of Belarus and its leadership in protecting the sovereignty and independent policy of our country,” the MP said.
