PM: Belarus expects $9 billion in food exports in 2024

MINSK, 31 December (BelTA) – Belarus expects $9 billion in food exports in 2024, but needs to set more ambitious goals for 2025, BelTA learned from an interview of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko with the First News TV channel.

"Container shipping by the Belarusian Railways is gaining momentum. Belarus delivers foodstuffs to more than 20 countries by railway. The geography of our consumers is expanding. We have made an interesting step this year: we have introduced milk to the commodity exchange. We see that it has paid off. A large number of buyers, even from the most exotic countries, have registered on the exchange and concluded transaction," Roman Golovchenko said.

He pointed out the progress in cooperation with Oman. "The head of state has recently paid a visit to Oman. We [the government delegation] had been there before. A new cooperation area was confirmed: production and supply of baby food, development of milk processing. We have a lot of such projects. We need to work on them actively," the prime minister emphasized.

"In 2024, we expect a significant amount of foreign currency earnings from the food exports, which should reach $9 billion. Despite all the difficulties, our processors and agricultural workers have succeeded in their job. The higher goals we have achieved this year, the more ambitious they should be next year," Roman Golovchenko stated.
