Plans to implement over 20 investment projects in Belarusian pharmaceutical industry by 2030

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – Belarusian pharmaceutical enterprises intend to implement over 20 investment projects by 2030. Sergei Kazakevich, Director General of the managing company of the holding company Belpharmprom, made the statement during the roundtable session held in BelTA's press center to discuss the development of the national pharmaceutical industry.

A strategy has already been drafted to guide the manufacturing of staple pharmaceutical products and preparations for the next decade. In 2021-2030 Belpharmprom enterprises intend to implement 23 investment projects. About 300 medications will be developed within the next five years.

According to the executive, the government has always paid close attention to the development of the pharmaceutical industry. As many as 37 major investment projects worth a total of about $345 million have been implemented in the Belarusian pharmaceutical industry since 2012. A number of projects are being implemented.

In particular, Borimed Company is busy reconstructing its pill shop in order to bring it into compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. The company is also setting up a new manufacturing facility to make solid-dosage forms. The company's Director General Yevgeny Tarasenko noted that the order to start designing another pill shop with the output capacity of 1 billion pills and 100 million capsules per annum was signed on 13 October. The project's implementation will begin in late 2021 in order to commission the facility by the end of 2023. The company starts making 12-15 new medications every year.

In the last five years Belmedpreparaty Company invested about Br150 million in modernization, development, and creation of new manufacturing facilities, the company's Director General Sergei Belyayev said. Many manufacturing sites were retooled in these years. Two major investment projects are being implemented. One of them provides for starting the pilot production of oral cancer drugs. A modern manufacturing facility to make cancer drugs in the form of pills and capsules will be created to substantially expand the product choice and bolster the company's export potential.

The other investment project is being implemented in shop No.8 that makes freeze-dried medications. The project will expand the product choice. According to Sergei Belyayev, the project has a local potential and an export potential due to the unique manufacturing capabilities of the enterprise. There are no other enterprises like that in the country and there is only a handful of enterprises like that in the ex-USSR. Belmedpreparaty's development strategy for the next ten years provides for implementing seven investment projects that will allow enhancing the manufacturing capacity.

Minskintercaps Company presents 5-10 new medications every year. This year it has started making new forms of the D3 vitamin for all kinds of patients. According to the company's Director Aleksandr Zhadan, a number of projects meant to upgrade the existing manufacturing facilities will be implemented.

The roundtable session was dedicated to the Day of Workers of the Pharmaceutical and Microbiological Industry of Belarus that will be marked on 15 October.
