MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – Sanctions are an act of economic war, BelTA learned from Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Andrei Savinykh.
The MP said: “Without a shadow of a doubt I see sanctions as an act of economic war. The sanctions are illegal. They are measures of economic coercion used against a sovereign state. No doubt they will slow down the economic development of our country.”
At the same time the MP reminded that economic sanctions have been used against Belarus since 1996. “Nevertheless, we've managed to handle these negative trends. We've come up with ways to develop our national economy,” he noted. “There is another important point to consider. The sanctions are enforced by a certain number of countries. But these countries already account for less than even one third of the world's GDP. They are far from being the entire world. This is why I am convinced that we will be able to find a solution, redirect our export flows, and deal with these challenges.”
