Myasnikovich: Adverse impact of pandemic on EAEU economies subsides

MOSCOW, 28 May (BelTA) – The negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economies of the Eurasian Economic Union member states is gradually weakening, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich said in a message on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union that will be observed on 29 May, BelTA informs.

“The negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economies of the union is gradually weakening. The EAEU economies started showing signs of recovery due to the efforts to support economic activity and the lifting of mitigation measures in a number of economic sectors. In January-March 2021 the mutual trade in the EAEU increased by 16.7% year-on-year, the trade with third countries rose by 3.9%,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

He went on saying that the past year put the EAEU to the test. “I believe that the union has coped with this challenge well. Thanks to coordinated actions of the governments of the member states and the Eurasian Economic Commission, it was possible to ensure effective management of resources, critical medicines, medical devices, industrial goods and food products. Timely measures were taken to ensure economic stability and counter coronavirus infection,” he said.
