CHISINAU, 14 August (BelTA) - Minsk has donated to Tiraspol, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and Minsk’s sister city, five Belkommunmash trolleybuses, five MAZ buses, two municipal vehicles, two ambulance cars and a unit of fire fighting equipment, BelTA learnt from the State Administration of Tiraspol.
The State Administration of Tiraspol noted that the issue of safety of passenger transport is a pressing one. The Transnistrian officials stressed that it is difficult to provide safety of the passengers given the ageing transport fleet and problems with its repair and maintenance. Tiraspol has developed a plan to significantly increase the safety of public transport. In order to improve the situation the Tiraspol authorities turned to Minsk for help. This was done within the framework of a cooperation agreement signed between the sister cities in 2002. The Minsk City Council made a decision to donate five Belkommunmash trolleybuses, five MAZ-manufactured buses, two municipal vehicles, two ambulance cars and a unit of fire fighting equipment.
It is underscored that the trolleybus depot of Tiraspol is about to begin cooperation with the Belkommunmash company. A group of mechanics will undergo a 7-day training which will involve retraining to use the up-to-date equipment. Such training is necessary because in the future the Transnistria authorities plan to upgrade the trolleybus fleet, which implies that maintenance should comply with technical requirements of the manufacturing plant.
