MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Azerbaijan are actively engaged in industrial cooperation and technology transfer, Belarusian Deputy minister of Foreign Minister Igor Nazaruk told the media following a meeting of the Belarusian-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, BelTA has learned.
"Azerbaijan is one of our key trade and economic partners. We cooperate in other areas. Today's event is evidence that the will of the Belarusian and Azerbaijani leaders is being transformed into relevant agreements. The roadmap that we signed today is a plan of action covering almost all areas of trade. We have appointed the point men, outlined the deadlines. As for specific figures in terms of industrial cooperation, we expect an economic effect of about $200 million in equivalent in addition to what we already have," Igor Nazaruk said.
As part of the state visit of the Belarusian president to Baku in May, the parties announced the plans to increase trade to $1 billion. “If we implement the projects we have mapped out and add other forms of cooperation, I think we can fulfill the plans. There is a tendency towards higher trade. We trade in machinery, agricultural products. By the way, our agricultural products are very popular in Azerbaijan due to their high quality and safety. More retail outlets start selling Belarusian food products, is growing, including large chain stores. We also offer a wide range of medicines, veterinary drugs, plant protection products,” the deputy minister said.
According to him, the emphasis will be placed on joint work at the production sites of Ganja Automobile Plant. The plan is to assemble not only tractors but also other farm machines, fire and utility vehicles.
A project to produce complex fertilizers using nitrogen from Azerbaijani and Belarusian potassium is also under discussion.
"In addition to industrial cooperation, we are also engaged in technology transfer. The level of our relations is high and we are ready to share our achievements and successes with our friends,” Igor Nazaruk added.
