Leningrad Oblast named Belarus’ seventh largest trading partner among Russian regions

MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) -  Leningrad Region is among the top-7 Russian regions in terms of trade with Belarus, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko said at a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Government of Leningrad Oblast of Russia Oleg Malashchenko, BelTA learned.

According to Yuri Shuleiko, the interaction between Leningrad Oblast and Belarus is multifaceted; working contacts are very frequent which testifies to the commitment to achieving high practical results in cooperation.

“We very much appreciate this approach, and on our part we will do our best to make the arrangements mutually beneficial, aimed at solving not only current, but also prospective tasks of development of our strategic partnership. Today the region ranks 7th in terms of trade with the Republic of Belarus among the subjects of the Russian Federation,” Yuri Shuleiko said.

In 2024, mutual trade exceeded $1 billion for the first time in many years. According to Yuri Shuleiko, these are very convincing results of effective cooperation. “We are constantly looking for new significant projects, building the interaction between the authorities and business in the most efficient way,” he said.

The deputy prime minister expressed hope that the visit of the delegation would lay the groundwork for a new program of cooperation for the period of 2026-2027, which would be approved at the next meeting of the joint commission for the development of cooperation between Belarus and the Leningrad Oblast of the Russian Federation.

In addition, Yuri Shuleiko invited the participants of the meeting to visit the agricultural exhibition Belagro which will be held on the grounds of the Great Stone industrial park in June. The deputy prime minister also believes that  Leningrad Oblast will be featured at the visiting exhibition INNOPROM in Minsk in the autumn.
