VITEBSK, 2 September (BelTA) – In January-August 2021 Glubokoye Milk Canning Plant shipped $2 million worth of whey to China, Elena Lavrinovich, a representative of the plant, told BelTA.
Glubokoye Milk Canning Plant began to make inroads into the Chinese market last year. The company was looking for new markets to diversify its export away from the Russian market, and to increase revenues.
This year Glubokoye Milk Canning Plant has significantly increased whey export to China year-on-year. “In January-August of last year, we exported $174,000 worth of demineralized whey to the Chinese market . This year the shipments have amounted to $2 million. Our company produces whey all year round, about 800 tonnes per month on average. Almost all of it goes to the Chinese market," said Elena Lavrinovich.
The plant has already sold the entire volume of whey contracted for October. The plant has the capacity to ramp up the production but there are some issues with the volume of raw material, Elena Lavrinovich noted.
The plant also supplies small batches of milk powder to China with a view of diversifying the export product range. This year, the plant has shipped trial batches of condensed milk with sugar to Malaysia. The company hopes that this will be the first step to the market of the Asian country. Also, the company began to explore the Japanese and Vietnamese markets having supplied several batches of whey. The plant has signed contracts with major traders with branches around the world in the hope to branch out into as many foreign markets as possible.
