Company chosen to run Belarusian digital timber tracking system

MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – The forest inventory enterprise Belgosles has been chosen to run the universal state automated system for tracking timber and transactions with timber in Belarus. The step is stipulated by the Forestry Ministry's resolution No.9 of 5 July 2021, BelTA has learned.

The Forestry Ministry's resolution was worked out in compliance with presidential decree No.50 of 18 February 2021 on improving timber recordkeeping work. The purpose of the decree is to enable recordkeeping, control, and rational use of harvested timber.

It is the first digital timber tracking system that has been introduced in Belarus. The software was developed by Belarusian specialists and costs 15-20 times less than foreign analogs.

The Belarusian digital timber tracking system relies on modern information technologies and takes into account cutting-edge Belarusian experience and foreign experience. Among other things the system offers a universal database and allows mobile devices and stationary workstations to access it. Modern data transmission technologies will be used as well as modern technologies for generating timber reports. The system will provide information support and will enable the automation of processes involved in the initial registration of harvested timber. The system will provide information about how much timber gets harvested and information about timber shipments.

The system will become mandatory in Belarus as from 20 August 2021. It will enable keeping records of harvested timber, simplify the issuance of accompanying documents, and automate the planning, recordkeeping, and analysis of all the main business processes and decisions in the area of timber harvesting. It will control all the steps of harvested timber shipment in the digital form.

The Forestry Ministry's resolution No.9 of 5 July 2021 comes into force as of the publication date.
