Belarusian Railways' export freight shipment up 40% in January

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – In January 2021, Belarusian Railways transported 8.8 million tonnes of freight, or 101.9% as against January 2020. Export freight shipment by Belarusian Railways soared by 40% over the same period of 2020 and totaled 3.9 million tonnes, the Belarusian Railways press service told BelTA.

Shipment of fertilizers went up 1.5 times and shipment of oil products more than doubled over January 2020.

According to preliminary data, in January 2021, freight handling rose by 6.1% over the same period of 2020 to 6.3 million tonnes. Belarusian Railways reported an increase in handling of chemical and mineral fertilizers, oil products, forest products, grain, and other goods.

Freight turnover equaled 3.09 billion tariff tonne-kilometers in January 2021, 3.9% up from January 2020.
