Belarusian Minsk Oblast, China's Guangdong Province sign roadmap for cooperation

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) – Governor of Minsk Oblast Aleksandr Turchin and Governor of China's Guangdong Province Wang Weizhong signed a roadmap for cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee.

The delegation of Minsk Oblast headed by Governor Aleksandr Turchin is on a three-day visit to Guangdong Province of China. Aleksandr Turchin thanked Wang Weizhong for the opportunity to discuss pressing issues of mutual cooperation between Minsk Oblast and Guangdong Province. “We have been working in Guangzhou for the second day already,” Aleksandr Turchin said, ”and I hope our visit will turn out to be fruitful and yield concrete results. I have a special regard for Guangdong Province. More than 10 years ago, when I was the vice governor, we started this cooperation. After so many years, this is my second visit (now as governor) to your wonderful province and your wonderful city”.

Aleksandr Turchin said that in September 2022, the leaders of Belarus and China adopted a joint declaration on raising the relationship to a new level. “In July of this year, with the invaluable support of our friends, Belarus became a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. On the margins of the SCO summit, the Chinese leader said that during the upcoming visit of China’s Premier Li Qiang to Belarus, it is important to address a set of practical issues that exist between our countries,” he said.

Aleksandr Turchin also thanked for the invaluable support of the Chinese side at the height of the pandemic. “Back then you helped us with protective suits, masks, thermometers, thus saving the lives of many of our citizens. In fact, during this period our contacts were put on hold, but just since last year, we have exchanged visits at the level of vice governors. I hope that a new flourishing period is beginning in the relations between Minsk Oblast and Guangdong Province. They will develop rapidly and contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of  citizens of both Guangdong Province and Minsk Oblast. I hope that as a result of our visit new agreements will be reached on joint projects. Today's signing of the roadmap is an important signal to business of our two countries,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

Wang Weizhong, for his part, noted that he had never been to Belarus, but had heard a lot about the country and knew it as a strong country in terms of infrastructure, industry and technology. He also proposed to establish cooperation in the production of electricity from renewable energy sources.
