Belarus, Turkmenistan strengthen transport cooperation

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Turkmenistan Stanislav Chepurny met with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Prime Minister for Transport and Communications Batyr Annayev on 31 March, the Belarusian Embassy in Turkmenistan told BelTA.

The meeting focused on air services between the two countries and on expanding cooperation in transport and logistics more broadly. The parties also discussed prospects for developing trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Turkmenistan. Particular attention was given to preparations for the next session of the Belarus-Turkmenistan intergovernmental commission.
Belarus and Turkmenistan signed a protocol on establishing diplomatic relations on 21 January 1993. For the first time in the history of their long-standing relations, the two independent states expressed a mutual desire to develop cooperation based on universally recognized principles of international relations. Over the years, a solid foundation has been laid for productive cooperation between the two countries. Turkmenistan’s embassy has been operating in Minsk since October 1995, and the Embassy of Belarus has been working in Ashgabat since July 2002.

The legal framework of Belarus-Turkmenistan cooperation includes more than 100 treaties and agreements at various levels. An important mechanism for advancing bilateral relations is the Belarus-Turkmenistan intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
