Belarus to spend almost Br19bn on national road program through 2030

MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) - Nearly Br19 billion are planned to be allocated for the implementation of the Belarusian Roads state program in 2026-2030, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry.

According to the press service, the Belarusian Roads state program is the foundational document for the country’s road sector. The total length of public roads in the country is 86,000 km, with over 5,000 bridges located on them.

“The network is already established. The state program for 2026-2030, like the previous one, will be primarily aimed at preserving existing roads and bridge structures. The goal is to upgrade and maintain public roads in a condition that ensures comfortable living in any part of the country,” the press service said.

The document aligns with the objectives of the program for the Belarusian social and economic development, approved by the decision of the Belarusian People’s Congress in December 2025.

“The funding for the state program is nearly Br19 billion, with the lion’s share coming from the national budget (almost Br17 billion). Local budgets will contribute Br2 billion. The plan is to repair and reconstruct at least 25,000 km of public roads, which is 1.4 times more than in the past five-year period,” the ministry explained.

Special attention will be paid to upgrading gravel roads connecting rural towns to district centers into roads with improved surfaces. The plan includes constructing cement-concrete pavements on the busiest exit routes from Minsk within the boundaries of the second ring road. These include sections of the R-28 Minsk-Molodechno, M-6 Minsk-Grodno, R-1 Minsk-Dzerzhinsk, and R-23 Minsk-Slutsk highways.

According to the ministry, the measures being taken will significantly extend the service life of road surfaces on the most heavily trafficked highway sections near the capital.

Among the largest projects are the reconstruction of the M-3 Minsk-Vitebsk section from Pleshchenitsy to Lepel, the M-10 from Rechitsa to Kalinkovichi (this section is divided into five phases, with the first phase planned for completion in 2026), the R-46 from Lepel to Sorochino (completion in 2026), the R-53 from Zhodino to Borisov (2026), and the R-122 section from Mogilev to Chausy (2027).
