GORNO-ALTAYSK, 24 July (BelTA) –Belarus and Russia’s Altai Territory will expand cooperation in the agro-industrial complex. This matter was discussed at a meeting between Agriculture and Food Deputy Minister of Belarus Vladimir Grakun and Agriculture Minister of Altai Territory Sergei Mezhin.
During the talks, the parties acknowledged the high level of mutual understanding and expressed readiness to further strengthen partnerships in all domains.
Belarus and Russia have agreed to boost trade in foodstuffs and agricultural raw materials following productive negotiations. In January-May 2025, the trade in agricultural products rose 2.1 times year-on-year. Belarusian products, including meat, fish, milk, cheese and eggs are available at the Belarusian Products retail chain in Altai Territory where they enjoy steady demand. Belarus imports Russian oilseeds, grains, legumes and vegetable and melon crops from Altai Territory.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation in crop and seed production. Field trials of Belarusian-developed corn and rapeseed hybrids are now underway in Altai. Agricultural stakeholders from the region are scheduling a visit to assess potential for scaling up joint initiatives in this field.
Cross-border knowledge transfer in animal husbandry encompasses three priority areas: small farm support, sustainable beekeeping, and efficient poultry production.
Cooperation in the field of agricultural education and science is also on the rise: Belarusian and Altai universities and research institutions are implementing joint projects, holding seminars and conferences.
The parties identified opportunities to supply Belarusian equipment and components for rebuilding and constructing dairy farms in Altai Territory, particularly milking systems. Discussions also covered expanded cooperation with the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation regarding deliveries of compound feed, premixes, and amino acids.
The parties agreed to actively participate in future agro-industrial forums and exhibitions, which will enhance business connections and broaden cooperation to benefit agricultural producers.
