Belarus’ Gomel Oblast’s trade with Uzbekistan triples over past five years

GOMEL, 24 March (BelTA) - The trade between Belarus’ Gomel Oblast and partners from Uzbekistan has tripled over the past five years, Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Uzbekistan Aleksandr Ogorodnikov in Tashkent, BelTA learned from the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.

A delegation from Gomel Oblast, led by the governor, is currently on an official visit to Uzbekistan. During the meeting with the ambassador, the parties discussed increasing the supply of products from enterprises in the southeastern region.

“Uzbekistan is among the top ten trade partners of Gomel Oblast. Our trade exceeds $48 million, and it has tripled over the past five years,” said Ivan Krupko.

The southeastern region of Belarus primarily exports woodworking products, meat and milk, plastic goods, and cellulose. It imports cotton yarn, slag wool, fruit, ceramic tiles, toys, and clothing from Uzbekistan.

Among the promising areas, Gomel Oblast sees increasing the supply of food products, ready-made furniture, forage harvesting equipment, and machinery for livestock complexes.

A packed program is planned during the visit. The delegation from the southeastern region, which includes representatives from major industrial enterprises, is set to meet with partners from Tashkent and Fergana Region, take part in a business forum, and discuss prospects for bilateral relations. B2B negotiations, bilateral business meetings, and the exchange of useful information are expected to take place, along with the signing of new contracts.

“Following this trip, we must increase the export volumes of products from Gomel manufacturers to Uzbekistan. To do this, it is necessary to present our goods effectively. The main task for the entire delegation is to strengthen cooperation with our partners,” Ivan Krupko emphasized.
