Belarus’ 2026-2030 development program to focus on quality of life

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – The Minsk City Executive Committee hosted a meeting of the Minsk delegation to the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress’ second session to review the draft 2026-2030 social and economic development program of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian First Deputy Economy Minister Ivan Vezhnovets spoke about the details of the program that will set the course for the country’s development for the next five years: “When drafting the five-year program, we proceeded from the key goal to create a new quality of life for every citizen of our country. Based on this, we developed the priorities: demographic security, improving the quality of life of our citizens, economic competitiveness, and enhancing technological self-sufficiency. We also addressed the issues of our country’s defense capability.”

According to him, one of the priorities is strong regions. “Not only large urban centers should develop, but also rural areas. We need to create equal living conditions for them,” Ivan Vezhnovets explained.
The first deputy minister pointed out that the program also reflects the development of tourism potential. “In our assessment, the development of tourism gives an impetus to the further development of related industries, such as transport, hospitality, and catering,” he said.

The proposed version of the program is designed to elevate the quality of life for citizens to a new level. “When drafting the five-year program, we used our long-term strategic documents: the National Sustainable Development Strategy and the National Security Concept. In addition, the National Academy of Sciences and the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research have conducted extensive sociological studies. We studied the expectations of the population and incorporated them into the priorities of the five-year plan. Of course, when drafting the document, we proceeded from the risks that may arise during the implementation of the program. Today, the biggest risk is global instability and a possible slowdown in global economic development. Therefore, we are orienting our program primarily towards internal resources, because no one but ourselves can create a state for our citizens,” Ivan Vezhnovets summed up.
