Vera Lapko wins San Jose 2018 opener

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 69 Vera Lapko went off to a good start at the San Jose 2018 in the United States, BelTA informs.

The Belarusian saw off China's world number 32 Zhang Shuai 7-6 (7-2), 6-0. Vera Lapko will next face U.S. world number 42 Danielle Rose Collins.

Belarus world number 108 Victoria Azarenka beat Ukraine's world number 56 Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 7-5 in the opener. The Belarusian will next face Spain's world number 7 Garbine Muguruza.
