Union State MPs to discuss Belarusian hockey players' rights in Russia

MOSCOW, 20 November (BelTA) – The provision of equal rights to Belarusian and Russian athletes will be discussed at a meeting of the Commission for Social Policy, Science, Culture and Humanitarian Affairs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 27 November, BelTA learned from the PA press service.

“The participants of the meeting will discuss the state and development prospects of physical education and sports of Belarus and Russia within the Union State. Special attention will be paid to ensuring equal rights to the citizens of our states, including the existing restrictions on the rights of Belarusian hockey players who want to play in Russian teams,” the press service noted.

MPs will also be updated on the progress made in harmonizing the admission rules to higher and secondary special educational institutions of preferential, including winners of Belarusian, Russian and international sports competitions, as well as the harmonization of physical education programs.

There are plans to consider the draft priority areas and priorities for the further development of the Union State in 2018-2022, and also issues related to the establishment of the Youth Chamber under the Parliamentary Assembly, and the performance of the Union State budget.

Taking part in the event will be representatives of the Union State Standing Committee, the Ministry of Education of Belarus, the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of Belarus and the Ministry of Sport of Russia.
