GRODNO, 24 June (BelTA) - Grodno is ready to host top-level tournaments, Chairman of the Estonian Athletics Association Erich Teigamagi said during a meeting in the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Kravtsov met with Chairman of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Vadim Devyatovsky President of the European Athletics Association Svein Arne Hansen, and President of the Estonian Athletics Association Erich Teigamagi. The guests came to Grodno to attend Belarus Athletics Championship and to assess the city's sports infrastructure.

What I saw convinces me that Grodno is ready to host top-level tournaments. The city has an excellent sports complex, the infrastructure to host such tournaments, said Erich Teigamagi. He stressed that he has something to compare. Estonia hosted athletic top tournaments and is ready to share its experience with Belarus.

“Grodno has a great team of organizers and good infrastructure. Athletes feel very comfortable and love to compete here, and this says a lot,” said Vadim Devyatovsky. He stressed that an advanced athletics center is being built in Minsk. Grodno, however, will be in demand as a training and competition venue. The President of the European Athletics Association asked question about logistics and transportation capabilities to bring athletes from 50 countries here, which speaks of the interest in the city on the part of the European Athletics Association.

More than 500 athletes are participating in Belarus Athletics Championships whish are running in Grodno on 23-25 June. This year's event is important because the country's national athletics team for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will be formed after it.
