Teams from four countries to compete in Water Polo Federation Cup in Brest

BREST, 21 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian city of Brest will host an international water polo tournament from 22 to 24 July, BelTA learned from Viktoria Astakhova, deputy director of the Brest Olympic Reserve Center for Water Sports.

The tournament will be held under the aegis of the European Swimming League (LEN). Belarus will host such a large-scale water polo competition for the first time. Men's national teams of Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic will compete for the main prize of the Water Polo Federation Cup. The teams will play one another once over the course of the tournament. The team that will score the highest number of victories will get the main prize. In between the games, the athletes will be invited on a tour of the city that will include a visit to Brest Hero Fortress.

Spectators will be admitted to all the games free of charge. The venue sits more than 1,000 people. The games will be streamed live on several internet channels.

The tournament will be supervised by a LEN technical delegate from Serbia and a team of arbiters from Croatia, Germany, Greece and Montenegro. “After the tournament is over, the delegate will write a report. The European Swimming League will consider this report when deciding whether to let Belarusian sports venues host such large-scale tournaments or not,” Viktoria Astakhova explained. She added that the Belarusian side prepared very seriously for the event to make sure that Belarus will further be able to bid for hosting, for instance, the European Junior Water Polo Championships.
