Lokomotiv Yaroslavl raise Minsk Cup trophy

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – HC Lokomotiv Yaroslavl won the Minsk Cup held in Belarus to mark the 950th anniversary of the Belarusian capital, BelTA has learned.

The deciding game between Lokomotiv Yaroslavl and Dynamo Moscow was held at Chizhovka Arena. The score was opened in the first period by Yegor Averin who placed Yaroslavl in front. Dynamo's rookie Dustin Boyd tied it up in the middle stanza. Just before the second break Nikita Cherepanov made it 2-1 for Moscow. Alexander Polunin added one more in the final period to make it 3-1.

Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk beat Yunost Minsk 4-1 to place third. Dinamo Minsk completed the tournament in the fifth position after blanking Dinamo Riga 4-0.

According to players and coaches of all the teams, the organization of the preseason tournament in Minsk was great. All necessary conditions were created for guests. Head coach of HC Yunost Minsk, the main initiator of the Minsk Cup Mikhail Zakharov noted that his men showed their best against the clubs of the Kontinental Hockey League. New head coach of HC Dinamo Minsk Gordie Dwyer said that the tournament was a useful experience, first of all, for young players who would like to be part of HC Dinamo Minsk. According to the Canadian specialist, the youth showed their best against more experienced rivals. The team will continue its training in Minsk and will travel to Latvia for another preseason tournament in mid August.
