Five Belarusians to play in U.S. Open qualifiers

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – The U.S. Open qualifying starts at the Flushing Meadows in New York on 22 August. Five representatives of Belarus will do their best to battle through the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament, BelTA has learned.

Belarus world number 110 Arina Sobolenko will take on Camilla Rosatello of Italy (World No.243) in the women's singles qualifying opener. Vera Lapko (188) will play Daniela Seguel of Chile (229). Aleksandra Sasnovich will play in the tournament's main draw. Victoria Azarenka has withdrawn from the competitions due to a ongoing family situation.

Vladimir Ignatik (166) will open the men's singles qualifying against Maximo Gonzalez (190) of Argentina. Egor Gerasimov (123) will play Argentina's Federico Coria (233), Ilya Ivashko (205) will take on Argentina's Facundo Bagnis (109).

Wins in three qualifying games are needed to advance to the U.S Open 2017 main draw which kicks off on 28 August.
