Every other athlete can be tested for doping at Pyeongchang Olympics

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) - Every other athlete can be tested for doping at the 23rd Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Director of Belarus' National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) Denis Muzhzhukhin told a press conference, BelTA has learned.

At the previous winter games in Sochi around 2,500 athletes passed doping tests. Some of them were tested several times. “There can be no doubt that the fight against the use of prohibited drugs will be given even more attention in Pyeongchang. It is assumed that every second athlete will be tested,” Denis Muzhzhukhin said.

According to the NADA director, more than 170 doping tests have been undertaken on Belarusian athletes ahead of the Olympics. “The tests were checked in an accredited laboratory in Dresden. 52 tests were run by the National Anti-Doping Agency and 126 tests by the international federations. All necessary practical and theoretic seminars were held. Athletes were advised against taking any medicines to the Games, as medical groups will be provided with all necessary medical products,” Denis Muzhzhukhin said.
