Darya Domracheva thanks fans for support at World Cup event

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) - I am always happy to feel the support of spectators and see fans waving Belarusian flags, Darya Domracheva said in an interview with Belarus 1 TV Channel after she won the Women's 12.5K Pursuit at BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon 8 in Holmenkollen, BelTA informs.

Harald V of Norway, who watched the race at the stadium, extended greetings to the four-time Olympic champion as she won another gold medal in the Biathlon World Cup. The Belarusian also received a message of congratulations from Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

“I was happy to see our fans with Belarusian flags at the stadium and feel the support of local fans chanting my name with a Norwegian accent. In these moments, I understand I am not alone on the course,” Darya Domracheva said.

She commented on her position in the World Cup general classification. “I do not think about the points in the overall standings. I try to get ready for every race and focus on it. This is the end of the season and there is little energy left. This is why it is important to spend it the right way rather than waste it thinking about the points,” the athlete added.

Darya Domracheva is currently third in the World Cup general classification with 641 points. Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia is first (727 points). Russia's Tyumen will host IBU World Cup Biathlon 9 from 22 to 25 March.
