MARRAKESH, 10 May (BelTA) – Belarus won 24 medals at the ISF Gymnasiade 2018 in Morocco, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus won five gold, seven silver and 12 bronze medals at the ISF Gymnasiade 2018. The summer gymnasiade for our athletes is the first step towards higher achievements in sport,” Director of Belarus' National Center of Physical Education and Sports for Pupils and Students Vitaly Strigelsky said.
Belarus won gold medals in rhythmic gymnastics (group all-around), athletics (hammer thrower Yekaterina Grazhevskaya), swimming (Ivan Shamshurin in the 50m butterfly and Anastasia Vaskevich in the 200m medley), wrestling (Alesya Getmanova).
Belarusian youth athletes set three new records for Belarus at the gymnasiade: two in swimming and one in athletics. “This is a great achievement for our national team. The participation in the gymnasiade brought invaluable experience to Belarusian athletes,” the head of the delegation said.
The 17th edition of the ISF Gymnasiade completed in Morocco with an official closing ceremony at the stadium in Marrakesh on 8 May. More than 3,000 athletes from 59 countries took part in the closing parade.
