MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – Belarus will face Slovakia in a bid to stay in the Fed Cup World Group, BelTA informs.

The ITF has announced the draws for the 2018 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group and World Group II play-offs. Last year's runner-up Belarus will benefit from a fifth consecutive home tie when they face Slovakia on 21-22 April.

Belarus and Slovakia played each other in Bratislava at the same stage of the Fed Cup in July 2004. Then, the hosts were up 4-0.

At present, Belarus is ranked 4th in the world, with Slovakia being 11th.

At the start of the season Belarus lost 2-3 to Germany at Chizhovka Arena on 10-11 February. Slovakia beat Russia 4-1.

The 2018 World Group and World Group II play-offs will take place alongside the World Group semifinals on 21-22 April. In the semifinals, Germany will be at home to Czech Republic, and France will be at home to the United States. Last year the United States defeated Belarus 3-2 in the final. This year's final is scheduled for 10-11 November.
