Belarus to face Germany in friendly ahead of Indoor Hockey World Cup

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – Belarus will play Germany in a friendly ahead of the 2018 Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup which is due in Berlin, Germany on 7-11 February, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Hockey Federation.

The match is scheduled to take place in Berlin on 6 February. The Belarusian national team will comprise experienced players of HC Ritm-Azot Grodno and HC Victoria Smolevichi: Svetlana Bogushevich, Nadezhda Silitskaya, Krestina Popkova, Yulia Mikheichik, Rita Batura and others.

Belarus will open the 2018 Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup against the United States on 7 February. Herman Kruis' team will play in Group A also against Switzerland, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan and Poland. Group B will feature Australia, Germany, Namibia, Russia, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic. Four best teams from each group will advance into the playoffs. The medal games will take place on 11 February.

Belarus' best achievement at the Women's Indoor Hockey World Cup was the fourth place in Poznan in 2011.

The EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy, Men is scheduled to take place in Belarus on 16-18 February. HC Minsk that won the Belarusian championship will face the leading European teams at the Minsk Sports Center. Belarus hosted the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy at Chizhovka Arena in 2015 and at the Minsk Arena velodrome in 2016.
